Throughout the piece, which consists of over 1,000 drawings, entities—including letters that form part of the phrase ‘I love the back in me’—engage in a continuous cycle of transformation. These entities devour and merge with one another to produce new entities, perpetuating the process. The piece underscores my ongoing inquiry, as an African Creole individual born during the final stages of Lusophone colonialism in Cape Verde, into my subconscious relationships with blackness.
